You
may know that the Old Stone
Presbyterian Church, built by men using rough native stone in 1796, is the
oldest church building west of the Alleghenies which has remained in continuous
use in its original form. But did you
know that the sand used for construction was carried in saddlebags from the
Greenbrier River by women on horseback?
It must have been quite an undertaking, considering that the river was 3
miles away!
