The West Virginia Film Office is a service agency
under the WV Division of Tourism and an interim member of the Association of
Film Commissioners International and provides complimentary scouting and
research services, acts as a liaison among governmental agencies and the
production team, assists in securing location permits, and provides general
support to the production team to ensure a wrinkle-free shoot.
The West Virginia Film Office provides support to a
wide variety of productions ranging from film and television productions to
music videos and still photography shoots. Every year, West Virginia plays host
to dozens of national, regional, and local television commercials, reality
shows, and independent film and video productions. Motion picture studios set up
shop in diverse locations throughout West Virginia for feature film
productions, including this year's "Gods and Generals."
Because of West Virginia's rich history, cultural
significance, and famous residents, dozens of short and feature documentaries
are shot in the state on a regular basis. And numerous feature films have been
produced based on West Virginia-related stories, such as "A Beautiful
Mind," "The Mothman Prophecies," and "October Sky".
